In this video, Kendra Kimbirauskas of Shimanek Bridge Farm describes and shows photos of the challenges she and her husband face while growing food in Oregon. Looking back on the seasons from 2020 to 2021, Kendra talks about keeping their farm going through wildfire, flooding from extreme rain, temperatures up to 116 degrees, ongoing drought, and an ice storm. Looking ahead to future challenges, she discusses the expansion of industrial chicken farming into Oregon as water restrictions in California makes the state a less appealing option for huge poultry CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations).
This video was recorded at our pre-festival event in Raleigh, North Carolina, on the Thursday before Farm Aid 2022.
