Farm Aid Partners with Legends Hospitality to Serve HOMEGROWN Concessions® at Farm Aid 2017
HOMEGROWN Concessions® features family farm food at all-day music and food festival
PITTSBURGH — Farm Aid announced today that it will again partner with Legends Hospitality to serve family farm food to festivalgoers at Farm Aid 2017 on Saturday, Sept. 16. Legends and its culinary team are responsible for the venue’s food and beverage service for all attendees at Farm Aid’s annual music and food festival this year at KeyBank Pavilion.
“Farm Aid’s mission is to strengthen family farm agriculture and connect farmers and eaters,” said Farm Aid Associate Director Glenda Yoder. “Since 2007, HOMEGROWN Concessions® has fulfilled that mission, introducing family farm food to concertgoers and creating new supply chains with more economic opportunity for family farmers.”
Legends’ Southeast Regional Chef, Sara Jordan, and Northeast Regional Chef, Frank Travisano, have teamed up to create specialty menus for Farm Aid 2017, with ingredients that adhere to Farm Aid’s HOMEGROWN Concessions® criteria. These criteria require that all ingredients are sustainably produced by family farmers using ecological practices and that farmers receive a fair price for their products.
“Legends is thrilled to partner with Farm Aid and HOMEGROWN Concessions® for the third consecutive year, and looking forward to providing festivalgoers with another unforgettable culinary experience,” said Bill Wilson, vice president of Legends Hospitality. “Our chefs have worked diligently with the Farm Aid team to curate a fantastic spread of food and beverage offerings, developed to reflect an authentic representation of Western Pennsylvania’s food culture.”
Farm Aid’s Culinary Director Sonya Dagovitz supervises the sourcing of all ingredients, utilizing expertise in natural and organic food supply chains and relying on Farm Aid’s vibrant network of family farms and farmer organizations.
Festivalgoers will enjoy menu items sourced from local farms including Weatherbury Farm, Burns Angus Farm, Laurel Vista Farms, Tiny Seed Farm, Kistaco Farm, Redrange Farm, Goat Rodeo Farm & Dairy and Brunton Dairy.
Menu items will feature humanely raised meat and dairy, local and organic produce and bread made with organic flour. The HOMEGROWN Concessions® offerings from Legends will include sausages with toppings made from local produce; farm fresh French fries; an organic soba noodle salad; a rice, greens and beans bowl; hot dogs with toppings including local sauerkraut; cheeseburgers; portabella mushroom burgers; and local candied apples and ciders. Two “Fresh Store” stands will feature local cheeses.
Additional vendors being brought in for Farm Aid 2017 include longtime Farm Aid food purveyors Patchwork Family Farms, Corndog, Inc. and Farm Aid’s own HOMEGROWN Youthmarket staffed by young people from The Grange in Pennsylvania and Ohio and from Grow Pittsburgh. They will sell apples, pears and peaches — depending on what’s in season on September 16. Other vendors include Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette, Conover Organic Farm, Pittsburgh Ice Cream Company, Republic Food Enterprise Center, Baby Loves Tacos, Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe, Zeke’s Coffee and A Taste for Something Moore. Local menu items include pierogis and baked goods made with local flour.
All food at Farm Aid 2017 will be served on compostable serviceware. AgRecycle will haul and process serviceware and food scraps to create compost to sustain soil and future crops.
Farm Aid 2017 will feature performances by Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds, as well as Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, The Avett Brothers, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Jamey Johnson, Margo Price, Blackberry Smoke, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Valerie June, Insects vs Robots and Blackwood Quartet.
The HOMEGROWN Village will include hands-on activities that engage festivalgoers in the ways family farmers are enriching our soil, protecting our water and growing our economy, in addition to bringing good food for good health.
Participating food company sponsors of HOMEGROWN Concessions® include Lundberg Family Farms and Frontier Co-op. Additional sponsors of Farm Aid 2017 include Bonterra Organic Vineyards, UPMC Health Plan, Horizon Organic, Applegate Farms, Lagunitas, PA Preferred and ASPCA.
People who missed their chance to purchase Farm Aid tickets can take part in the festival from home. AXS TV will broadcast “Farm Aid 2017” live beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
